Al-Hassa's screwy weather

For those of you living in tornado ally or in the path of future hurricanes, you won't blink an eye at the following picture. We live with the hottest weather on planet earth, that's our lot in life. It's miserably hot but, predictable down to the week every year, the same thing. This year has been a bit different. There's been more rain at times there's usually not rain and the other night, a wind storm that tore pieces of the city and threw them.

This is in one of the poorer neighborhood's, Salhiyah

You would think that this fell from the house that it's leaning against but your wrong...It came from 3 houses over to the left of the picture! We'll see how long it takes to get cleared and by whom.

Its the same here in Makkah. One day its hot as heck, the other (like today) its cold. Expect clinics to be full of sick children this week.

Whoaaaa ...that's quite the weather! Over here in Kuwait *waves* we had HAIL the other afternoon - all the kids were out on the street, picking it up and eating it. And it's rained for three days in a row. Plus a sandstorm. Weird weather. And I'm with Saudi jawa - expect the clinics to see lots of sick kids this week...from the reactions I saw, it's just majnoon.

Before coming to the Kingdom my dear husband kept telling me to enjoy the green and the occasional rains of Northern Virginia, USA that I would not see such sights for a long time to come...now he and his family like to joke and say that with our (my) arrival the rains and a new weather phenomenon have arrived in the Kingdom. Will this weather stay or rather become the norm such as the rain storms we've been having all over the Kingdom? Or will it all return to "business as usual" when the searing heat arrives?

Expect business as usual. I noticed two years ago that in August, the desert still had a lot of grass and water deposits in it. These are things that normally dry up shortly after spring. It's not just this year, it's been wetter lately, and out of season too. Usually the dust storms die out when spring does and summer has set in. We've had some dust storms hitting us in mid-summer that've completely taken us by surprise in the last few years.

Something I learned outside of Europe, is that there are so many things we have to cope with :)
